Women in Research Award

Susan Alberti and Ita Buttrose congratulate Dr Kate Graham

Dr Kate Graham is the first recipient of the Susan Alberti ‘Women in Research’ award. She recently gave birth to her second child, Harrison. The award funding will help employ a research assistant or postdoctoral fellow to continue experiments for Dr Graham until she returns to work.

The Award has been named in honour of St Vincent’s Institute Foundation Chair and long-standing medical research advocate and philanthropist Susan Alberti AO, whose interest in the field began when her only daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

“I’m delighted to be associated with this Award,” Mrs Alberti said.

“As one of the few women in the building and construction industry in the 1970s and 80s, I have great respect for any women trying to raise a family and pursue a career. Medical research is demanding, particularly for those researchers trying to balance their work with family life.
