WITH OUR SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER
STEPHANIE ASHER

As a Project Director with BHP, a mother of three, a best-selling author and, until recently, the Mayor of Greater Geelong, Stephanie Asher has ticked a few unplanned life challenges off her bucket list but says she still has a few more goals in her sights.

A well-regarded business operator, Stephanie set up her own management consultancy in her twenties and has spent most of her 25-year career in the corporate world delivering programs for major brands including Coles Group, BHP, Newcrest Mining, GE Money, Australia Post and many more.

Back in 2000, she and husband Robin moved from Melbourne’s inner city to Victoria’s surf coast to raise their family and Stephanie dedicated more than a decade to public service and community life, including nearly six years as a local councillor. Prior to the local government role, she was appointed as a director of Barwon Regional Waste Management Group, Committee for Geelong, Bethany Community Support, Geelong Regional Library Corporation and Kids Plus Foundation. She also spent two years as Vice President of the Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club and continues as an active member of the surf life-saving community.

Between 2013 and 2017, Stephanie was the regular Saturday columnist with News Corp and, despite a lifelong fear of public speaking, also spent two years with a regular spot on local radio. Elected to council in 2017 and to the role of Mayor in 2019, Stephanie became Greater Geelong’s second longest serving mayor before stepping down in mid-2022 to resume her focus on her professional career.

Stephanie met Susan Alberti AC through a mutual contact in 2016. They clicked over a coffee and Stephanie successfully proposed writing Susan’s authorised biography.

The Trailblazing Story of Susan Alberti – The Footy Lady was published by Melbourne University Publishing in 2017 and is now into its third reprint with more than 13,000 copies sold. Stephanie delights in the friendship that developed with Sue, who she finds to be a continued source of laughter, love and inspiration.
