Mother’s day lunch a huge success

Ita Buttrose AO OBE

The inaugural Susan Alberti Medical Research Foundation Mother’s Day lunch was an outstanding success. On Thursday May 9 Sue hosted Ita Buttrose AO OBE and more than 350 ladies and gentlemen for a fundraising event for St Vincent’s Institute at Leonda by the Yarra.

Ita gave an inspiring speech and touched on her role as a trailblazing ‘working mum’. Several thousand dollars were raised for SVI and the event is set to become a regular fundraising event for SAMRF which has donated millions of dollars to medical research over the last twenty years. The occasion also featured the awarding of Dr Kate Graham from SVI with the first Susan Alberti Women in Research Award.

Mrs Alberti said it was a special occasion. “I have admired Ita from afar for a long time – she inspires all of us to strive to do the very best in everything we do.”

Guests on the day included Sen Helen Kroger, Mayor or Maribyrnong Catherine Cumming (sitting) and top row (left to right) Mayor of Stonnington, Matthew Koce, Liberal candidate for Deakin Michael Sukkar, Member for Higgins Kelly O'Dwyer, Colin North, Hon Kevin Andrews and Margaret Andrews.
